Patan (Lalitpur)


Patan (also known as Lalitpur, Nepali for "Pretty city") was the capitol of one of the 3 kingdoms in the Kathmandu valley before the Ghurka king invaded and united Nepal

Legend has it that when the King returns to Patan, this bird will fly to the head of this elephant, and then the elephant will take a bath in the aligator fountain shown above. There is a hooka in the (vacant) palace here, awaiting the use of the returning king. A servant stokes freshly every day just in case the Elephant takes his bath (signalling the return of the king) (Nepal, The Travel Addicts)
