Ang Tho Marine Park

21-Sep-2000

Ang Tho Marine Park is a national park near Koh Samui - and the mythical setting for Alex Garland's backpacker classic "The Beach". It is a series of Karst formations at sea - similar to Ha Long bay in Vietnam, but not nearly as spectacular

[Saltwater lake inside the mountain]
A natural large basin surrounded by limestone mountains. It is 250m long, 200m wide, and 7m deep. It is connected with the sea by an underground tunner [sic], but people cannot get through. The emerald lake is supposed to be [sic] created by an underground collapse.
