The Danum Valley Coffin Hike

The Danum Valley Coffin Hike

08-Jul-00 thru 09-Jul-00

This hike is not named so because the walk up the hill is so difficult that it will put you in a coffin, rather because before the Borneo Rainforest Lodge was set up in the Danum Valley - the local tribespeople that lived near here would place their dead in caves. This hike took in some of these burial sites.

This guy was awesome. We got up early the next day to see him wake up. He stretched, waddled over to the edge of his nest, and took a whiz off the edge while standing on two feet and holding his "unit" with both hands as if he were writing his name. While he was doing this, he let out an audible sigh of releif. When he noticed us watching, he seemed embarrassed. \ Watching that scene, it's not surprising to learn how closely we are related to "The Forest-Man" (which is what Orang-Utan means in Bahasa) (Malaysia, The Travel Addicts)
